Corporate Christmas Party Venues in Heaton

Let us be honest about what Heaton is. A dense grid of Tyneside flats and terraces with two busy shopping streets running through it, and no hotel ballroom or conference suite anywhere in it. If your company party needs a top table and dinner for 200, you will be booking in the city centre.

What Heaton has instead is rooms: upstairs function rooms over pubs, social clubs with a stage and a cheap bar, a football clubhouse, and restaurants small enough that a team of twenty can take the whole place. For most businesses round here, that beats a hotel package. Here is what is genuinely bookable in Heaton, and which bigger rooms sit a few minutes down the bank.

The Corner House, Heaton Road

The Corner House is the closest thing Heaton has to a conventional function venue. Built in the 1930s at the top of Heaton Road, it is a Greene King pub with a grill kitchen, an upstairs function room and nine hotel bedrooms above, a useful combination if colleagues are travelling in. Venue listings put the room at around ninety, worth confirming when you enquire. The food is a set pub and grill menu with buffet options rather than anything bespoke, and the room is booked through the pub.

Best for: A recognisable, easy-to-find room in Heaton with beds upstairs for anyone travelling.

Heaton Buffs Club, Heaton Road

At the southern end of Heaton Road, Heaton Buffs Club is a members' social club affiliated to the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, and its function room is one of the largest single spaces in Heaton proper. The club quotes a range from around twenty up to 250 people and takes outside bookings for office parties and corporate events. Better still, it will advise on catering, DJs, discos and live bands. Saturday nights normally carry a live band and a cover charge, so December Saturdays need booking well ahead.

Best for: The biggest capacity inside Heaton, at social-club rather than hotel prices.

The Chillingham, Chillingham Road

The Chillingham is a Sir John Fitzgerald pub right by Chillingham Road Metro, with a comfortable lounge, a separate sports bar and an upstairs function room used through the year for live music and a monthly comedy night. Two practical merits: food runs until 8pm daily, and the pub is open to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, so an early meal can turn into a proper night without moving on. Ten hand pulls, several given to regional microbreweries, suit a team that cares more about the beer than the canapés.

Best for: A Metro-door pub with a room upstairs and serious cask beer downstairs.

Heaton Stannington FC, Grounsell Park

For a no-nonsense exclusive room on a tight budget, Heaton Stannington FC at Grounsell Park is hard to beat. The clubhouse main lounge holds 65 seated, or 100 with seating removed, and comes with a stage area, a sound system you can plug into, TV screens and an award-winning real ale bar. Hire is quoted at around £20 an hour, varying with date, duration and numbers, and there is a separate upstairs room. Catering, karaoke and party lights can be added, and bookings go through an enquiry form on the club's website.

Best for: Best value exclusive room in Heaton, with a stage and a bar already in place.

Hide, Chillingham Road

Hide Bistro and Bar, sister venue to Nest further along Chillingham Road, is the pick for a smaller team that wants the food to be the point. The whole venue can be taken exclusively for up to 25 seated or 30 standing, with a private dining room and a bar inside the space, running until midnight. Exclusive hire is quoted from a £3,500 minimum spend including VAT, fair for a chef-led dinner with drinks but no use for a casual twelve-person booking, where a normal table reservation is the cheaper route.

Best for: A small senior team or a department of fifteen who want a serious kitchen.

Two more Heaton rooms worth a call

Heaton Meadowfield Social Club on First Avenue, in the Avenues off Chillingham Road, hires out its hall for social and business functions, with listings putting capacity at up to around 150. Ring the bookings administrator rather than calling in.

The People's Theatre on Stephenson Road hires its spaces too, including the Gallery Bar for social functions and the rehearsal and meeting rooms, day or evening. For a company that wants something on a stage, it is a distinctive Heaton choice.

The bigger rooms a few minutes away

If your headcount outgrows Heaton, you do not have to go far. Tyne Bank Brewery on Walker Road in Byker takes 70 to 300 guests in a converted warehouse with exposed brickwork, an in-house PA, a disco ball canopy and an outdoor terrace, all on one level and fully accessible, with catering partners covering street food through to three-course dinners, plus free parking.

Down in the Ouseburn, The Biscuit Factory hires its Biscuit Room, over 1,200 square feet with a banqueting suite, dance floor, stage and bar, for up to 300 seated diners, and runs private Christmas parties as a standing offer. The Cluny on Lime Street holds around 300, and neighbouring Cluny 2 seats 160 theatre style. Smaller and more characterful, Ernest on Boyd Street hires out its back room with food.

What to pin down before you book

Five questions settle almost every booking round here. Can we have the room exclusively, or is it partitioned off a working pub? What time does the bar close on that date? Is the food a set buffet, a sit-down menu, or are we bringing caterers in? Is there a hire fee, a minimum spend, or both? And can a bar tab go on a company card? December Fridays and Saturdays in these rooms go early, so if you are reading this in autumn you are in good time.
