About Heaton Stannington FC

Heaton Stannington FC, affectionately known as the Stan, is Heaton's own football club, playing in the Northern League at Grounsell Park on Newton Road in High Heaton. The ground opened in 1935 and was renamed in 2007 in memory of Bob Grounsell, a long-serving player, groundsman and official. Semi-professional first-team football on a Saturday afternoon here is an affordable, friendly and thoroughly local alternative to the big-money game, and the club has a warm, community-rooted feel.

The Stan is also a major force in grassroots football: its junior section, launched in 2023, grew from five teams to fifteen within a season and now coaches well over 300 young players across age groups from Under-7 to Under-17, and was named a Club of the Year finalist at the 2025 Northumberland FA grassroots awards. Whether you want to watch a game, get a child playing, or volunteer, it is the heart of football in Heaton.
