About The Biscuit Factory

The Biscuit Factory is the UK's largest independent contemporary art, craft and design gallery, housed in a restored Victorian warehouse on Stoddart Street in Newcastle's Ouseburn cultural quarter. The building dates from around 1870 and was, for much of its life, a working biscuit manufactory, the origin of the gallery's name, before being converted into an exhibition space in 2002. The refurbishment retained much of the warehouse's original industrial character, creating a distinctive, photogenic setting across two floors.

The gallery presents work by hundreds of artists, from paintings and sculpture to prints, jewellery and design-led homeware, all of which is free to browse and available to buy. Spread across around 35,000 square feet of exhibition space and artist studios, it changes its displays regularly and hosts workshops and events. The venue is complemented by a café and event and private-hire spaces, making it both a visitor attraction and a working commercial gallery at the centre of the Ouseburn arts scene.
