Ouseburn Farm
A free-entry community city farm and charity in the heart of the Ouseburn Valley, home to pigs, goats, sheep and poultry, with education, training and volunteering alongside family visits.
About Ouseburn Farm
Ouseburn Farm is a free-entry community city farm and registered charity in the heart of Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, set on land once occupied by the former Northumberland Lead Works. The farm traces its origins to 1976, when parents from Byker sought to give their children access to nature, home-grown food and the care of animals. Today it occupies a regenerated corner of the valley within walking distance of the city centre, welcoming visitors to meet its animals, wander the gardens and enjoy an on-site café.
The farm is home to a range of animals including pigs, goats, sheep and poultry, cared for to high welfare standards, and combines family visits with a strong social purpose. Alongside education and volunteering, it runs a placement programme supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, who take part in meaningful work across animal care, gardening, catering and creative activities. The farm welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year and remains free to enter.
