Stepney Bank Stables
An equestrian centre and registered charity in the Ouseburn Valley offering horse-riding lessons for children and adults, plus youth and community programmes - one of the few inner-city riding schools in the UK.
About Stepney Bank Stables
Stepney Bank Stables is an inner-city riding school and registered charity in the Ouseburn Valley, one of very few urban stables of its kind in the country. Its historic Top Yard has been a working stable site for around two centuries, once home to horses that hauled goods up from the river to be distributed around the city. Today the charity combines a riding school with a children's and young people's social development project, using horses to engage and support young people, including many who have struggled within mainstream education.
The stables offer horse-handling and riding lessons for children and adults of all abilities, alongside youth and community programmes aimed at building confidence, self-esteem and life skills. Over more than three decades the charity has worked with thousands of young people across Newcastle. The riding school is recognised by the Association of British Riding Schools and works to established equestrian standards, and it welcomes riders and volunteers from across the city and beyond.
