Newcastle Buddhist Centre

Triratna Buddhist centre on Westgate Road offering a free weekly meditation drop-in, introductory courses on Buddhism and meditation, study groups and day retreats.

About Newcastle Buddhist Centre

Newcastle Buddhist Centre is part of the Triratna Buddhist Community and is run by ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order together with friends of the centre. It sits at 187 Westgate Road on the western edge of Newcastle city centre, a Metro ride from Chillingham Road to Central Station and a short walk uphill, and says it has been teaching meditation and Buddhism in a friendly, supportive environment for more than 35 years. No prior experience or Buddhist faith is needed to attend.

The main way in for newcomers is a weekly meditation drop-in on Tuesday evenings, open to everybody with no formal charge and run on donations, while the six-week Believe in Change course introduces Buddhism and meditation in more depth. Regulars can join the Going Deeper study group and Sangha Sunday gatherings, and the centre holds day retreats through the year. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult, and current class times are listed on the centre's website.
