About Heaton Mosque and Islamic Centre
Heaton Mosque and Islamic Centre, at 1 Rothbury Terrace, is one of Newcastle's original mosques, established in 1980 and serving the local community for more than four decades. It is a registered UK charity (listed as the Islamic Centre and the Mosque, Heaton), and grew from modest beginnings, with the building adapted over the years through successive additions of classroom, kitchen and prayer-room space from the early 1980s onwards. It provides a welcoming and accessible place of worship for Muslims across Heaton and the wider east of the city.
Alongside the five daily prayers and Friday Jummah, the mosque supports a range of educational, charitable and community-focused activities. It has facilities for both men and women and a wheelchair-accessible prayer hall, and works to promote community cohesion, education and wellbeing, fostering mutual understanding and supporting the spiritual, social and welfare needs of those it serves.
