About Kiln
Kiln is a bar, kitchen and working pottery studio in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, on Hume Street. It began in 2017 in what had been a broken-down old garage, starting life as a pottery studio that served coffee on the side, cooking over flame and serving on its own handmade plates. That origin still defines the place: it remains a working kiln and ceramics studio first, with a small kitchen at its heart, and the tactile, hands-on character of the ceramics carries through everything it does.
The kitchen is deliberately compact, serving a short menu of freshly prepared dishes with a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern accent, cooked over flame and plated on the studio's own ceramics. There is an on-site bakery producing bread and cakes fresh each day, carefully made coffee, and a wide selection of soft and alcoholic drinks. Inside are communal tables and cosier corners, including sought-after couches by the fire, giving it a warm, informal atmosphere that has made it an Ouseburn favourite.
