The Tyne Bar

An independent riverside pub open since 1994, famous for its beer garden beneath the Glasshouse Bridge and a programme devoted to free live music.

About The Tyne Bar

The Tyne Bar is an independent riverside pub and live music venue in Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, at 1 Maling Street. Open since November 1994, it has become a cornerstone of the local community, and is best known for its distinctive beer garden set beneath the Glasshouse (Ouseburn) bridge. Over three decades the surrounding valley has been transformed, but the pub has kept its relevance and its loyal following, remaining one of the area's most-loved spots for a drink beside the water.

The bar maintains a broad drinks selection and serves food daily, with a menu taking in gourmet hot dogs, burgers and sharing plates alongside dedicated vegetarian and vegan options. Above all it is devoted to free live music, hosting regular performances by local and touring bands on a purpose-built stage, with a programme spanning blues, rhythm and blues, jazz and beyond. That mix of riverside setting and no-cover gigs has made it a defining Ouseburn institution.
