The Ship Inn
A historic Ouseburn pub, one of the oldest in the valley, now running a fully vegan kitchen alongside real ales and ciders.
About The Ship Inn
The Ship Inn is a historic, family-friendly pub in the heart of Newcastle's Ouseburn Valley, at the bottom of Stepney Bank. One of the oldest pubs in the area, it takes its name from the historic importance of river craft to the development and heritage of the Ouseburn, and retains the character of a traditional valley local. It has outdoor seating and a car park, and is dog friendly, making it a relaxed stop for visitors exploring the surrounding creative quarter.
Under its current direction the Ship has become a fully vegan pub, with a vegan kitchen serving generous, thoughtfully prepared food; menu staples include chilli nachos and vegan fish and chips, with the wider menu changing regularly. Alongside the food it keeps a strong drinks offering, with several changing real ales and cask ciders and vegan-friendly beers always available. That combination of a long history, a plant-based kitchen and a serious cask range gives it a distinctive place among Ouseburn pubs.
