Verisimilitudes: A Journey Through Art Song in Black, Brown, and Tan
A free Black British History Month screening of Quanda Johnson's award-winning concert film celebrating Black composers of classical art song.
About This Event
This award-winning concert video by Quanda Johnson uses music and imagery to explore the many realities of Blackness, honouring Black composers and lyricists who write classical art song, a tradition from which Black musicians have often been excluded. The songs, long left in musical archives, blend a European form with African soul. Screened twice (7pm and 8pm) as part of Black British History Month, the event is free and raises funds for Rhythms Northside, a community-generated theatrical project centred on the Black community of North East England and York.
