Two New Openings on Chillingham Road, Heaton

Chillingham Road has long been one of Newcastle's strongest independent food streets, and it has just picked up two new neighbours in the space of a week. Around 22 July, Stupid Good and Nova Café & Bakery both opened their doors — and, fittingly for Heaton, they have landed right next door to one another.

Sourdough pizza at number 280

Stupid Good has set up at 280 Chillingham Road, bringing sourdough-base pizzas to a street already well stocked with them. Alongside its classic and signature pizzas, the menu runs to sides such as chicken parmesan, fries and chicken bites with dips.

For now the Newcastle branch is collection-only, with the venue's own page listing evening opening from Monday through Sunday. As with any new arrival, it is worth checking days and hours before you set off.

Pastries and sourdough loaves at number 262

A few doors down at 262, Nova Café & Bakery has opened as a café and artisan bakery. In the words of local guide High Life North, it serves "sweet and savoury treats — expect freshly made pastries and stunning sourdough loaves," alongside artisan coffee.

It is pitched as a welcoming neighbourhood spot for a morning coffee and fresh bakes — the kind of independent that fits neatly onto a street that already counts Neighbourhood Coffee and the acclaimed Nest among its number.

Best for: Both new openings sit near the Chillingham Road Metro station, so you can reach them without needing to park.
