Chillingham Road has quietly become one of the best streets in east Newcastle for a charity-shop browse. Several well-stocked shops sit within a couple of minutes' walk of each other, raising money for good causes while giving Heaton's students and bargain-hunters a rewarding rummage. Here is our guide to the charity shops of Heaton.

Oxfam

Oxfam at 252 Chillingham Road has been a fixture of the street since 2005 and is the best known of Heaton's charity shops. It is particularly good for books and for vintage and pre-loved clothing, all in aid of Oxfam's international development and humanitarian work. Well kept and centrally placed, it is the natural first stop on a charity-shop crawl of the street.

St Oswald's Hospice

The St Oswald's Hospice shop at 266 Chillingham Road raises money for one of the region's most-loved local charities, the Gosforth hospice caring for adults, young people and children with life-limiting conditions.
